Classroom Mold Repair Work Completed at John E. Steinbeck, Dr. Oscar Loya, Creekside and Cesar E. Chavez Elemlentary Schools!
On Friday, October 2, 2009, John E. Steinbeck Elementary School served as the center of the Alisal Union School District Celebration for the completion of the classroom mold repair projects. Besides the repairing the water intrussion problems at John E. Steinbeck School, work was also completed at Cesar E. Chavez, Dr. Oscar Loya and Creekside Elementary Schools, In 2007, the district embarked on this major repair project to ensure the safety of all of our students. It took many moves and displacement of teachers, students and staff to ensure that the affected building were emptied in order to complete the work. Students at Creekside and Steinbeck were also impacted by limited play area. Besides staff, architects, construction managers, contractors and many other folks were focused on the repair work of the classrooms and other school buildings. Thanks to All for A Job Well Done! The next work to repair mold projects begins, pending Board approval, at Frement Elementary School followed by Frank Paul, VRB, Alisal, Bardin and Jesse G. Sanchez Elementary School Multipurpose Rooms. By December 2010, all mold related work in the multipurpose rooms should be completed. |

Monitor Flu Symptons.
•Students with flu-like symptoms, such as a fever of 100.4 degrees or more, muscle aches, a headache, sore throat, a cough, diarrhea and/or vomiting, should remain home until they are symptom free for at least 24 hours. This will limit the spread of a flu virus such as H1N1, as well as many other illnesses. •Talk to your students about washing their hands thoroughly and often. One recommendation is to teach your child to sing Happy Birthday twice while washing their hands. •Discuss the importance of covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or sleeve. Proper Hand-Washing Procedures 1. Wet hands with running water 2. Place soap in palms 3. Rub together to make a lather 4. Scrub hands vigorously for 20 seconds 5. Rinse soap off hands 6. Turn off the faucet by using a disposable paper towel (if possible) 7. Dry hands with a disposable paper towel. Do not dry hands on clothing. ***Assist young children with washing their hands. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers can be used if soap and water cannot be made available. Proper Upper Respiratory Etiquette • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. • If you don't have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands. • Put your used tissue in the waste basket. • Clean your hands after coughing or sneezing.
