Alisal Union School District Board Approves First Steps to Repair Six School Multipurpose Rooms and Build A New Elementary School
At the Board Meeting of August 19, 2009, the Board of Trustees unanimously approved the first steps to repair of six school multipurpose rooms and to build the new school to be located at the Monte Bella development area. The multipurpose rooms (cafeterias) have been shut for six years due to mold. The water intrusion caused extensive damage to the buildings forcing the closing of the facilities. Schools with damaged cafeteria/multipurpose rooms are Bardin, Alisal Community, Frank Paul, Fremont, Virginia Rocca Barton and Jesse G. Sanchez Elementary Schools. The multipurpose rooms should be completed within the next seven months. The new school will be completed for opening in the 2011-2012 school years. The Alisal Union School District is proceeding with the repair work using the Lease-leaseback design/build method under the provisions of Education Code 17406. Given the State downfall of facilities funding, the general contractor selected to repair and build under the Education Code 17406 provides the initial funding for the project until the time the district is reimbursed from the State. During the next two months, the Board will be asked to approve the various contracts for the repair work and the new school construction. “The repair work at the six multipurpose rooms is a priority for our students and district. I am pleased to know that a plan is in place to fix the school facilities,” stated Board President, Jesus Velasquez. |
