Program Improvement Update
The State Department is reviewing the lowest 5% of the schools in California considered to be "persistently lowest-achieving" as measured by the academic growth they have made. It is likely that several schools in our district will be added to this list. Following this information, our school district will be obligated to take action on a program improvement model for intervention. More discussion is coming on these steps at future board meetings.
District Schools Make Substantial Progress on State Academic Performace Index Scores
The Academic Performance Index (API) is the state's accountability measure to ensure ongoing academic growth in California schools towards a goal of 800 points. The following table shows that Alisal Union School District schools have made substantial progress from 2002 to 2009. The first row shows Alisal schools' 2002 API scores. The second row shows Alisal school' 2009 scores. The third shows how many points each school has grown from 2002 to 2009. The district and schools need to make significant gains to move out of Program Improvement. At this time, all schools are expected to implement academic intervention programs for students who are performing below proficiency. Please contact your individual school for additional information regarding your student's academic status. Based upon the progress we have made so far, we want to congratulate the Alisal USD teachers, staff, parents, and community for supporting Alisal's ongoing growth. To review the district's API data chart, please click on the title of this news brief. Thank you.
